Uses of Sand

Every year tonnes of sand are taken out of the ground from Leighton Buzzard quarries, but what exactly do we need it all for?

Without sand our lives would be very different. Sand is used to build houses and schools, to make glass (no TV or computers without sand!), it filters our drinking water to make it clean. It is used in sports arenas and football pitches. When you stop and think about it, sand really is all around us and you can begin to understand why we need so much of it.
